Mr. Coetzer spent all of his career life working for Sasol Technology . He held key positions in the Operations, Process Design, Production and R&D Departments of Sasol . During these periods, he was able to identify & implement water reduction projects, clean up the Sasol waste sites to environmentally accepted standards, model various system for optimization, facilitated HAZOP studies and MFD reviews, solve various production problems, spearheaded Flare Stock Design, Process Control Strategy of the Coal Gasification Plant, optimization projects at fertilizer & explosive plants, design of piping systems for various projects, modifications and recommissioning of a "moth-balled" Ethylene Plant .

He was the major proponent for the economic & technical integration of all plants and businesses in the Sasolburg complex to improve the company bottomline . He was also responsible for the research, development, process design, implementation and commissioning of a plant to recover useful products from a dusty tar effluent which included filtration, distillation and logistics.
