Mr. Ralph W. Peters, BSIE and MIE (USA) is the President and Founder of The Maintenance Excellence Institute, a consulting and training company focused on maintenance process improvement .
 
 

With over 35 years of professional experience, Mr. Peters is a recognized leader in the areas of implementing Operational Best Practices, developing Productivity Improvement and related Measurement Processes .

During his professional career he has directly supported long term operational improvement processes within both the public and private sectors. His significance as a consultant has been enhanced through his direct management experience with large governmental, maintenance and manufacturing operations and his capability to implement recommendations and validating projected results . Mr. Peters has assisted a number of companies achieve greater levels of operational effectiveness, among those are the US Air Force's Air Combat Command, Broward County Public Schools (Florida ), UNC-Chapel Hill, Atomic Energy Canada Ltd., Boeing, Caterpillar, Ford, Honda, Polaroid, Lucent, Heinz, General Foods, Biglots Stores, Sheetz Inc., Marathon Ashland Oil, Great River Energy, Wyeth-Ayerst (US&R), Cooper Industries, National Gypsum, Carolinas Medical Center, North Carolina Dep't. of Transportation and the US Army Corps of Engineers .

Mr. Peters is the renowned author of McGraw-Hill's Professional Division Book ; Maintenance Benchmarking and Best Practices, A Profit and Customer-Centered Approach . He has over 200 other articles and publications . Mr. Peters has also frequently delivered speeches and seminars on maintenance-related topics worldwide .

He was previously the Principal of Tompkins Associates and was responsible for the creation and direction of the maintenance consulting practice within the company, including support to sales, marketing and management of consulting projects, whilst providing client services in maintenance operations assessments, strategic maintenance operations planning and best practices implementations within plant, facilities and fleet maintenance operations.

Earlier in his career life he had gone through diverse but significantly challenging positions as the Director of Facilities Management of North Carolina Dep't of Administration, the Plant Manager of Channel Master Inc ., the Industrial Engineering Manager of Crescent/Xcelite Plant-Cooper Tools, the Director for Productivity Management with North Carolina Dep't of Transportation .

Mr. Peters is also a notable member of the American Public Works Association, Association of Facility Engineers, and the Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals . He has Bachelors & Masters Degrees in Industrial Engineering from North Carolina State University, and was a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff Course, the Engineer Officers Advanced & Basic Courses and the Civil Affairs Officer Course .
