Mr. Scott Farthing (USA), PE, is a Senior Pipeline & Corrosion Engineer with over 30 years of extensive experience in Pipeline & Piping Inspection & Maintenance (ASME B31 & API 579 Standards), ASME B31 Design & Integrity Stress Analysis of Piping Systems & Pipelines, Pipeline Pigging, Corrosion & Metallurgical Engineering, Modern Cathodic Protection Systems, Painting, Coating & Thermal Installation, NDT, RCFA, RBI and Scale Removal & Prevention Techniques.
 
 



He is currently the Manager Asset Integrity of SGS North America managing the entire operation of the Asset Integrity Division which provides services such as direct assessment methodologies, corrosion design, project management, installation, monitoring & surveys, risk & threat assessment, IMP development, risk audits & gap analysis of existing processes, NDT services, Mapping and High Consequence Area (HCA) determination, soil surveys and modelling for stress corrosion cracking.

During his career life, Mr. Farthing was the Senior Pipeline Integrity Consultant of Maersk Oil & Gas in Denmark wherein he established Risk Based Inspections and Assessment programs, reviewed the integrity & conditions of all subsea Mærsk pipelines using RBI database & operational data, evaluated relevance, frequency, & sufficiency of existing internal pipeline corrosion monitoring, control methods & made necessary recommendations, developed standards & procedures in areas of coatings, chemical selection, corrosion testing, material selection and other related areas.

He also provided technical assistance & interpretation of analysis in failure investigation. He was also the Senior Corrosion Engineer for Columbia Gas Transmission USA wherein he was responsible in providing guidance/recommendations on Internal Corrosion Policy & Procedures and developed & implemented monitoring & internal corrosion control program for gas storage & transmission facilities. In the earlier years, Mr. Farthing worked as a Senior Corrosion & Pipeline/Piping Consultant, Consulting Engineer and Corrosion Engineer to various companies namely SELF Bradford, Nalco Chemical, Petrotech Southeastern and Dresser Titan.

Mr. Farthing's experience was not only confined in the industry alone. He was also able to contribute his knowledge and skills in the academe. He was a Senior Professor & the Advisory Board Member of the Center for Study of Corrosion at the Ohio University where he lectured on the Introduction to Internal Corrosion, Evaluation & Selection of Biocides & Corrosion Inhibitors and Corrosion Control for Managers.

Mr. Farthing was the Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary of the American Gas Association wherein he authored GPTC guidelines for internal corrosion and he was involved in the rewriting of the CFR 192.475 & 192.477. He was also the Chairman and Treasurer of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) and a member of numerous committees dealing with internal corrosion issues. He has various papers published & presented to International Corrosion conferences.

Mr. Farthing has Masters and Bachelors Degrees in Chemical Engineering & Biochemistry from the Texas A&M University and the University of Phoenix, USA.
