He is currently the Senior Plant Manager of VIVA Methanol Company wherein he manages the Gas Reforming & Methanol Synthesis , complete Methanol to Olefins complex Optimal Lay Out , Air Separation unit and Cooling Water Systems .

During his career life, Mr. Nel was the Syngas Manager for PETROSA where he was responsible for Methane Reforming ( both steam & auto-thermal ), PSA Hydrogen Purification , CO 2 Removal ( MEA process ), Air Separation ( air, oxygen & nitrogen ), Gas Separation ( LNG, methane, ethane, propane, butane, LTG, ethylene, propylene & butylenes ), liquefaction and vaporization of natural gas .

He was monitoring and optimizing the plant's operating parameters and continuous problem solving in order to ensure optimal production. He has also performed HAZOP studies for plant modifications and new developments . Prior to this, Mr. Nel was the Divisional Superintendent of MOSSGAS responsible for the overall Oil Movement and Storage . He was intensely involved in the blending , optimization , dispatch and reconciliation of various fuels . He was responsible as well in identifying new customers for various niche products including LPG , heavy fuel oil , propane and fuel alcohols . During this period, he implemented a Quality Control System for final products ( ISO 9001 ) and an Environmental Management System ( ISO14001 ) for the O.M & S division.

Mr. Nel held positions such as Divisional Superintendent (Tank Farm), Process Design Engineer , Process Operations Training Officer and Production Supervisor for MOSSGAS , Sastech Engineering and other multinational companies .
